Why Skipping Professional Printing Could Cost You More Than You Think

If I simply handed you your digital files, I would be doing you a disservice.

You didn’t commission portraits of your dog so they could live on a hard drive. You commissioned them because these memories matter. Because the bond you share with them is one of the best things in your life. And because you want to preserve the story of your life together.

I don’t want to leave you with a folder of beautiful images and more work to do.

After almost losing my own dog, Mika, I realized I didn’t have enough photos of her.

As I sat in the waiting room, hoping, praying, negotiating with the great being beyond for her to make it through surgery, I made myself a promise: if she pulled through I would photograph her every day for the rest of her life.

She did. And I kept my promise.

I was given a second chance - the gift of time.

For that, I will always be grateful.

Some of those photographs still hang on my walls today. They are among my favorite images, even though it’s been years since I said goodbye to her.

Her story, our life together, is something I get to see every single day.

And I want that for you, too.

I want these images that we create together to be enjoyed now. Not someday.

Because someday has a way of becoming never.

Digital files have their place. But they aren’t the finished experience.

Digital files are wonderful. They’re perfect for sharing on social media, emailing friends and family, and uploading to your phone.

But these images from your session deserve to be on display in your home.

There are countless places that will print your files. But creating a beautiful, lasting piece of artwork involves more than simply uploading a file and choosing a size.

Color calibration matters. Materials matter. The paper or medium matters. The finishing touches matter. And the quality of the lab producing your artwork matters.

Your monitor needs to be properly calibrated. The materials need to be chosen with longevity in mind. And the finished artwork should look the way the photograph was intended to look.

You shouldn’t have to know any of this.

I’ve researched the professional labs I work with and chosen the best of the best. I look for archival-quality materials because I want your artwork to stand the test of time. If I don’t approve of the quality, I certainly don’t want you to own it.

If you choose an album, I’ll help design a book that tells the story of your pup - not simply put together a book full of photographs. We’ll lay out the pages so the images flow together and the story unfolds naturally.

I’ll take care of the details, the quality control, the technical aspects, and communication with the lab.

All you have to do is enjoy the finished artwork.
