With bad weather in the area over the weekend, it was a good time to stay home and knock some things off my to do list before Christmas gets here. It's hard to believe we're down to less than a week to go! I was in the mood to bake Christmas cookies and when I asked Izzy if I should start baking (not expecting her to reply), she responded by marching over to her cookie jar and looking up at me! She knows where her cookies are kept!
Now, the kind of cookies I was planning to bake are not for dogs. But as I watched Izzy look at me with a hopeful look that I might allow her to taste test every step of the way, I couldn't help but think, I need to make a Christmas treat for the girls.
Gingerbread is always popular this time of the year, so I dug around for a recipe and found this one. Easy enough! The easier and less time to bake, the better for me! I don't know how bakers keep at it hour after hour. I get bored after just 1 hour, then I start testing my finished goods even though I swear I won't so I don't spoil my dinner! So here we go:
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup water
2 T vegetable oil
1. Preheat over to 325 and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.
3. In a small bowl, mix molasses, water and oil. Using a wooden spoon, slowly mix wet ingredients into the flour mixture. You may need to use your hands to mix thoroughly.
4. Roll dough out to 1/4" thick and cut out shapes. Bake for 20 minutes. Allow cookies to cool before serving.
Easy peasy, right?
