3 reasons why I schedule pre-session consultations

It’s no secret that custom photography is an investment. The photos captured during your session will likely become of your most treasured possessions. As your photographer, I want to make sure I create heartwarming images worthy of your time and money.

Often, I am asked why do I invest so much time for my photo sessions, not only scheduling the photo shoot, but also a pre-session consultation. I didn’t always do this, but I found very quickly, this was one of the biggest mistakes I made when I first opened my photography business. Let me share with you 3 reasons why this pre-planning meeting is so valuable.

1. While it’s possible to discuss the details of your photo session over the phone or via zoom, meeting in person gives you, your dog and me, the opportunity to get to know each other better. After all, it’s not every day that your dog meets someone who has an inclination for holding a black box obscuring her face and click away. Not only does your dog get to smell me and hear my voice, but I also get to ask questions about your dog that will help me capture those endearing expressions that made you fall in love with your pup in the first place!

2. You’ll be able to see, touch and feel all my sample products. While you don’t have to make any decisions, I want you to start thinking about how you want to display the artwork we’ll create long before I press the shutter button on my camera. If you’re leaning toward wall art, we can look at the wall space in your home and determine where the perfect place would be to hang a fine art portrait. If you prefer a photo album, we’ll chat about how to tell the story of your furry family member. Knowing what art work you prefer determines how I will photograph your family during your session.

3. I encourage all of my clients to be included in the photos with their pups. To help you prepare what to wear, I offer a wardrobe consultation during our pre-planning meeting. This cuts down on stress the day of your session as you decide what to wear. I’ll share tips on the best colors, best styles and best accessories to be photographed in. If you have other family members joining in the session, it can be overwhelming figuring out how to coordinate everyone. Let me help so you not only look fabulous, but feel great too!
